Blood Moon over San Francisco

Blood Moon over San Francisco

On the morning of January 31, 2018, I photographed from my photo studio deck three lunar events which coincided with each other for the first time in

152 years: a Super Moon, a Blue Moon and a Blood Moon.

A Super Moon occurs when the moon is unusually close to the Earth which makes it appear larger and brighter. A Blue Moon is when two full moons happen in the same calendar month.  A Blood Moon is when the Moon turns red during an eclipse.
